According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of an apartment in greater Tokyo for the month of June was 2,541 Yen/sqm, up 0.4% from last month and up 3.2% from June 2012.
In Tokyo’s 23 special wards, the average rent in June was 3,101 Yen/sqm, up 0.5% from last month and up 3.0% from last year. This is the highest level it has been since February 2011.
Average monthly rent/sqm by city:
- Tokyo 23-ku: 3,101 Yen (+0.5% from May; +3.0% from June 2012)
- Yokohama City: 2,184 Yen (-0.2%; +1.0%)
- Saitama City: 1,830 Yen (+0.5%; +4.2%)
- Chiba City: 1,487 Yen (-0.3%; -0.7%)
- Osaka City: 2,092 Yen (+0.1%; +7.9%)
- Kobe City: 1,882 Yen (-1.4%; +8.3%)
- Nagoya City: 1,666 Yen (+0.2%; +4.9%)
*Data is based on the average advertised rent of a condominium, which may be higher than the rent after negotiations. It does not include apartments less than 30sqm in size.
