Nishi-Nippon Railroad is planning a 46-storey apartment building for Fukuoka City. The 152 meter tall building will be the tallest* building in Kyushu when complete in 2019.
The high-rise will be 3 meters taller than Kyushu’s current tallest apartment building – I Tower – which was completed earlier this year and located on the same island. Apartments in I Tower were selling for around 375,000 Yen per square meter when new.
Nishi-Nippon is also planning a second high-rise tower which could eclipse the height of their current project. The twin towers could have as many as 573 apartments when complete.
The towers will be built on Island City – a reclaimed land project. Island City was developed by Fukuoka City in the 1990s at a cost of 18 billion Yen. Development sites did not sell as well as forecast, plunging the project into the red. By early 2011, only 20% of the land had sold.
