Tokyo apartment rents slide for second month

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium in greater Tokyo was 2,624 Yen/sqm in November, down 2.1% from the previous month but up 2.5% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.76 sqm and the average building age was 19.6 years.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the average rent was 3,157 Yen/sqm, down 0.8% from the previous month but up 3.1% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.99 sqm and the average building age was 18.0 years.

In Tokyo’s 23 wards, the average rent was 3,306 Yen/sqm, down 0.3% from the previous month but up 3.3% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.26 sqm and the average building age was 17.5 years.

May 2015 rental data – Tokyo Kantei

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium in greater Tokyo was 2,656 Yen/sqm in May, up 2.1% from the previous month and up 1.3% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.08 sqm and the average building age was 18.7 years.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the average rent was 3,104 Yen/sqm, down 0.5% from the previous month but up 0.9% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.64 sqm and the average building age was 17.3 years.

In Tokyo’s 23 wards, the average rent was 3,229 Yen/sqm, down 0.3% from the previous month but up 1.0% from last year.

In Chiba City, the average rent has been in a downwards trend since the start of the year. The average rent in May was 1,439 Yen/sqm, down 0.3% from the previous month and down 9.6% from last year.

December rental data – Tokyo Kantei

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,536 Yen/sqm in 2013. This is the first time in 4 years that the average annual rent has seen an increase.

In 2012, the average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was getting close to falling below 3,000 Yen/sqm, but by 2013 it began to climb upwards again. Rents in surrounding cities have remained relatively stable over the past few years. Osaka and Kobe City have seen an increase in new apartments hitting the market in 2012~2013, which has pulled up the average rent.

September rental data – Tokyo Kantei

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,545 Yen/sqm in September, down 0.2% from the previous month but up 2.7% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.31 sqm (638 sqft) and the average apartment age was 18.8 years.

In Tokyo’s 23-ku, the average monthly rent was 3,095 Yen/sqm, down 1 Yen from August but up 3.0% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.20 sqm and the average age was 17.6 years.

June rental data – Tokyo Kantei

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of an apartment in greater Tokyo for the month of June was 2,541 Yen/sqm, up 0.4% from last month and up 3.2% from June 2012.

In Tokyo’s 23 special wards, the average rent in June was 3,101 Yen/sqm, up 0.5% from last month and up 3.0% from last year. This is the highest level it has been since February 2011.

Average apartment rent in May

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of an apartment in greater Tokyo in May increased by 0.1% from last month to 2,530 Yen per square meter. In Tokyo City, the average monthly rent in May was 2,979 Yen/sqm, up just 1 Yen from last month, but 2.2% higher than it was in May 2012. The average rent in Tokyo’s 23 wards was 3,086 Yen/sqm, up 0.1% from last month and 2.2% from last year.

April rental data – Tokyo Kantei

Tokyo Kantei announced the latest data on rental prices for condominium apartments across Japan. In greater Tokyo, the average monthly rent was 2527 Yen/sqm, down 0.6% from last month, but up 0.9% from April of 2012.

In Tokyo, the average rent did not change from the previous month but was up 1.6% from last year.

In the Kinki Region (Osaka, Hyogo Prefecture) rents are up by 5.8% from April 2012. In Osaka, the average rent of 1898 Yen/sqm in April saw little change from the month before but is 6.3% higher than last year. Rents in Kobe City are up by a staggering 9.5% from last year.

Rents up across Japan

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average rent for a condominium apartment (one with a private landlord, rather than a rental-only building) increased in Japan’s three major regions in December.

The average monthly rent in greater Tokyo (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba) in December increased by 3.0% from the previous month to 2,540 Yen/sqm, although it remains 1.1% lower than December 2011.
