Land prices up in 71% of locations – MLIT LOOK Report

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) published the data on land price movements across Japan for the third quarter in 2013 (July 1 ~ October 1).

The Chika LOOK Report measures land price changes in 150 locations throughout Japan. According to the latest data, 107 locations (71.3% of the total) saw an increase in land prices. This is higher than the last quarter which saw 99 locations with an increase in land prices. 34 locations (22.7%) saw no change in prices, while 9 locations (6%) saw a fall in land prices.

MLIT White Paper on home ownership

On July 2, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) released their 2012 White Paper. The theme of the report explored the living situations and demographics of Japan’s younger generation.

Home Ownership

Home ownership rates in Japan shrunk between 1983 and 1998, but began to pick up in 2008. The average rate across all age groups is around 60%.

MLIT Land White Paper 2013

On June 11, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) released the data from their 2013 White Paper on Land.

According to the report, land prices continue to fall across Japan although the rate of decline is shrinking. A greater number of survey locations saw an increase or stabilisation of land prices.

More areas in Japan see increases in land prices

On February 24, 2011, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) announced the latest Japan-wide land price trends in their “Land Price LOOK Report” for January 1, 2011.

Of the 150 surveyed districts across Japan, 16 districts recorded increases in land prices compared to the previous period. Some of the areas which reported price increases are:
